In 1991, Dodge had a great partnership with Mitsubishi along with AMC and Eagle.

This was the peak of car companies working together in a symbiotic relationship to build true performance cars. 25 years later, we still see the same partnerships, but not quite for the performance aspect, mainly just to build reliable inexpensive vehicles. This ’91 Dodge Stealth RT, however, slightly different category.

Now, from the factory, a Dodge Stealth was available as a 4-cylinder or a V6 engine. In this case, the Dodge Stealth RT was optioned as a V6 twin turbo. The factory vehicles were front wheel drive, meaning they were unable to truly put the power to the pavement in a racing situation. While they were a little nose-heavy and were able to get some traction, they truly couldn’t get the launch that they wanted, and that’s when the partnership with Mitsubishi came in, and they built the all-wheel-drive train for this vehicle. So, not only do we have a basic V6 engine that’s now almost doubled its horsepower output with the twin turbo setup, but we now can physically put twice the power to the ground with an all-wheel-drive basis for this chassis.

Additionally, Mitsubishi worked with AMC in their partnership to help figure out the best weight distribution for this monocoque chassis vehicle. What that means is the entire chassis and body are one piece of fuselage, similar to an airplane. This keeps the weight down a significant amount and, at the same time, ensures that it’s proportioned properly and has good chassis rigidity, stiffness, and balance to it. This helps cut down on the big NVH, or noise vibration harshness, which is a major manufacturer get out when building a performance vehicle. As a result, even though this was a 25-year technology update, when they built this in the mid-90s, this still, to this day, is one of the greatest followed performance vehicles that ever hit the market in the United States. The way that the vehicle performs, its handling, its horsepower, it’s braking, its weight distribution truly puts it on par with supercars that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Now, today, this Denver Dodge Stealth vehicle is owned by a young gentleman who is in high school and picked it up because it was a good deal and a good, reliable car. He didn’t quite know what he was getting at the time. When he brought it into us, we were able to show him a little bit about this history of his vehicle, what these vehicles were truly used for, how they were used, and really what the vehicle’s capable of. As a result, the owner knows that he can do a tremendous amount more with his vehicle, feel significantly safer and more comfortable behind the wheel of it, and at the same time, knows that he has something that’s worth keeping and holding on to for a long time.

If you have any concerns about your Denver vehicle, whether it be a high-performance aspect or just a base model, or maybe you want to change it from a base model to a more performance aspect, give us a call.
